Local songstress Janie Bay has taken the Afrikaans pop space by storm with her smooth vocals, epic collaborations and unique sound – and she’s back with more brand-new music this week as she picks ‘Kalmeer’ as the next single off her latest studio album ‘Prisma’.
The song, a fan favourite on the project, is about the unpredictable world that we currently live in. “Things seem to be moving too fast. Many unexpected things are happening to every one of us and it feels as if it is getting more difficult for people to cope psychologically and emotionally with everyday life,” Janie explains. “There is a need for calmer waters.”
As the song gains momentum, the star has premiered the official music video for the track. Bay explains that she and director Damiane van Reenen were looking to create a visual representation of the song that is rooted in the restlessness of the psyche.
“Depression, anxiety and despair are feelings that we are all grappling with,” Janie continues. “The song and video portray those moments that we find ourselves in where nothing seems OK and we are not sure how to resolve our fears and issues.”
The video was shot in Cape Town and Pretoria. Bay says that she loves working vir Van Reenen.
