Janie Bay is one of the most exciting new acts of 2017. Although being a live performer for years, the singer recently inked a deal with Warner Music South Africa and will officially be releasing her new single ‘Dance’ on all major digital platforms and radio on the 3rd of February. Ahead of the singer’s major release early next month, I caught up with her and got a bit of insight into how the song came to life.
You’re dropping your new single ‘Dance’ on the 3rd of February. What makes this the perfect lead single?
Everybody wants to feel good, right? I just wanted to write a song that will make people move a bit. Get them out of their own heads for a couple of minutes and just have a good time.
What inspired the new track?
I was sitting in my lounge when I picked up my guitar, and just started playing the hook line and the rest of the song honestly just followed very quickly. Song wise, I had ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Cool Kids’ on my mind. Lyrically, I had someone special on my mind.
How would you describe your sound?
Well, while I do classify myself as a singer-songwriter, my sound probably leans towards “folk-pop” but I wouldn’t lock it down to one thing in particular.
You’ve recently signed to Warner Music South Africa. What does this move mean for your career going forward?
It has been so good to get to know the Warner team. They are not only awesome people, but they are super skilled at what they do. Teaming up with Warner, for me, means I have such a rocking engine behind me to enhance what I do and I am positive that our journey ahead will be great. I am just very excited for all that’s to come!
Other than the new single, what else does 2017 have in store for you?
There will be more music and more shows and tours. I am just very keen to share my own music with the world!
