The much awaited drama horror film Her Mask, by debut director Reine Swart will premiere on M-Net Magic Movies 2 (DSTV Channel 106) on Thursday 29 October 2020 at 21:30. Featuring as part of the “Edge of your seat movies” slate, the film promises to keep audiences exactly there with its clever plot and scary approach.
Her Mask is about a grieving British girl who tries to unravel her murdered mother’s secrets that are connected to South Africa. Hoping to put an end to this haunting hex, she travels to South Africa, but instead of finding closure, it casts her deeper into sinister depths.
The film stars Mari Molefe van Heerden (7de Laan, Villa Rosa, Phil 1010, Die Vlieende Springbokkie), Coco Lloyd (X Factor), Hungani Ndlovu (Scandal, Memoire of an Honest Voice), Christopher Jaftha (Top Billing, Table Manners), Stephanie Sandows (Isidingo), Mary-Anne Barlow (Legacy, Egoli, Black Sails), Juanita de Villiers (Getroud met Rugby), Andre Velts (Knysna) and Christel van den Bergh (Vuil Wasgoed, Konfetti, Getroud met Rugby).
South African actress, Reine Swart (Netflix’s Z Nation, The Lullaby, The Refuge, Detour) makes her debut in the director’s chair. “We thought about the concept ‘everyone wears a mask’ in 2019. Little did we know that everyone was literally going to wear masks in 2020. It has been a daunting year to say the least. For the film Her Mask, the mask is a symbol that everyone wears a mask in one way or another”.
The film has been acquired for international distribution by the prestigious Paris based sales agents, Reel Suspects. This company has represented award-winning South African films such as Number 37 and Five Fingers for Marseilles. Additionally, Her Mask has been acquired by Cleopatra Entertainment for a December 2020 release in North America.
“It is wonderful when films like ours get to travel the world and be seen by international audiences, but I am thrilled that Her Mask will have its premiere here at home in South Africa” added Swart.
