GOODLUCK Drop Unique Covers Of ‘My My My’ and ‘Freak Like Me’ That Continue To Showcase Their Versatility

Local electronic act GOODLUCK have blessed fans with an array of new music during the lockdown period and while they continue promoting their current single ‘Rum & Cola’, a collaboration with Kav Verhouzer, the group have also released two impressive covers over the past two weeks.

First, the group dropped a cover of Troye Sivan’s smash hit ‘My My My’. The group have previously performed this cover live and dropped a video performing the song back in 2018 and the response was so great that they decided to officially record a cover of the track. In true GOODLUCK style, the group gives the popular song a spin of their own as they lace the track with sexy electronic percussions while lead singer Jules Harding adds her warm vocals to the mix.

GOODLUCK also teams up with German producer Phil Soda to give the popular 90s anthem ‘Freak Like Me’ their unique flair. The song made waves around the world when it was released by Adina Howard back in 1995 and again by the Sugababes in 2002. Now, in 2020, GOODLUCK and Phil Soda connected to the lyrical content of the song and knew they wanted to put their own spin on the track and release it as their next single.

“[We are] very excited about our collaboration with the awesome Phil Soda. It’s a cover of 90’s hit “Freak Like Me” which I loved to sing and rework,” GOODLUCK’s Jules Harding tells us. “It feels like the song was written in a time when women were first finding their power! The lyrics are cheeky, they are bold and confident and I think it’s so great”

In a time where gender-based violence around the world, especially in South Africa, is on the rise, releasing a female anthem feels right and GOODLUCK and Phil Soda did a stellar job showcasing the track’s powerful lyrics in their own style.
