It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a year since local electronic trio GoodLuck released original music – but with the world being plunged into a pandemic, we often forget just how fast time has gone. However, they are finally back and, in true GoodLuck style, they’re making a powerful statement as they release their highly-anticipated new single ‘Bird Of Paradise’.
The group says that this new single is one that is especially close to their heart because it is a powerful, evocative gender anthem that pushes boundaries for the band and the entire electronic pop genre.
The trio worked on this song alongside Grammy-nominated Producer Dimitri Tikovoï, who carved his career producing records for artists like Placebo, Charli XCX, Becky Hill and Blondie. The song was born at Buspace Studios in West London after the band connected with the accomplished French producer and wrote the song together while on tour in London.
What is especially refreshing about GoodLuck is that they’re not just any other suface-level electronic group. They try make people feel through their music and aren’t afraid to shine light on important topics and situations.
On ‘Bird Of Paradise’, the group explains that the world is experiencing a revolution of accountability and that some of the victims are no longer silenced by apathy and toxic masculinity. They are championing their survival and this song celebrates that strength, that conviction, a kind of hope that can only comes from deep within.
So, ‘Bird of Paradise’ is an anthem that the group feels world needs to hear at the moment. “I wrote the song about a person who breaks free from an abusive relationship and lets their inner strength take control of their destiny,” lead singer and songwriter Jules Harding explains. So many people are in toxic situations, they’re trapped by the circumstance, but also ultimately their choice. And this song is about breaking that trap and popping the balloon of self-doubt! Essentially becoming a ‘Bird of Paradise’ is the metaphor, and as they find the courage to fall in love with their colours, the boundlessness… Themself. They find the real truth, that inside they had the strength they needed all along.”
Producer Ben Peters adds “I think everyone can take strength from this song. Every time I hear it, it grabs me by the scruff of the neck and takes me on an emotional rollercoaster – it’s just something I’ve never quite heard before, and that – that is incredibly exciting…”
Bird of Paradise was also given the nod by Grammy Award Winning Mastering Engineer John Greenham, who finished off the single at his studio in LA. Greenham has worked with some of the biggest artists in the world, more recently renowned for his work with Billie Eilish.
