Gomora Telenovela Set To Thrill Local Audiences

Mzansi Magic has announced that they will be debuting ‘Gomora’ – a brand-new telenovela on the channel later this month. In the series, one family lives between two different extremes – one lives lavishly while the other struggles to make ends meat. In the new series, an unfortunate series of events causes both families to collide in the most thrilling way – revealing a complex story of romance, social inequalities and prejudices (as well as a surprising romance).

For those in the know, Gomora is also the nickname of the famous and beloved Johannesburg Kasi, Alexandra. The hustle and bustle of the township and its colourful flavour is the vibrant home of the series, which explores the disparity between lower and upper-class members of our country. With the contrast between the two worlds brought to life through one of the most innovative filming styles.

“Our customers are in for a real treat with Gomora. It is a refreshing new series that narrates a riveting homegrown story and features a rich tapestry of strong female characters. These are just some of the elements our viewers can expect from Africa’s most-loved storyteller,” says Nomsa Philiso, Channel Director at Mzansi Magic.

The star-studded cast of Gomora brings a brilliantly true to life texture to the series. Katlego Danke plays the role of Thathi, a trophy wife whose life takes an unexpected turn. Also leading in this well-made production are industry heavyweights like Connie Chiume, Themba Ndaba, Thembi Seete and Zolisa Xaluva among many others.

Katlego is excited to embark on a new chapter after saying goodbye to Isidingo earlier this month. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Katlego says “What a journey it’s been on this amazing show. I’ve grown as a person, as an artist and as a colleague. And for all of those lessons I’m truly grateful. This legendary show has come to an end but I strongly believe it will forever live in all of our hearts and souls for a very long time. It’s been over 20 years of captivating stories that we have had access to in our homes, so it’s special to every South African. We will miss those very South African nuances the show brought and the up to date trending info that almost seemed to be on screen in real time. But most of all the characters we have all come to love and know. A tearful farewell but it’s a job well done by an incredible team of people so we smile through the tears.”

Catch ‘Gomora’ from 30 March at 19:30, Mondays to Fridays on DStv’s Mzansi Magic (Channel 161).
