After the success of their ‘Forms and Function EP’ last year, Gangs of Ballet are ready to release the second EP in the trilogy. As they prepare for this momentous occasion, the band released the lead single off the project, a track named ‘Something’ and have released a brilliant music video to go along with it.
The song has a great, yet simple message behind it – embracing people for who they are. I love when music has a positive message and this is something the world really needs to hear. The lyrics to the song are strong and show the band’s growth in this department. Unlike their earlier material, this song sees the band leaning in a more pop direction and it really works for them. I love the simple chorus and the bits of African-inspired synths throughout the song.
The band also released an incredibly artistic video to the song. The band describes the video as a bit “strange” – it features a unique and wonderful guy who they just filmed being himself and brought it all together with a few clever camera effects. “When you watch the video, you’ll ask yourself what’s going on? But at the same time you won’t be able to take your eyes off of it, which is pretty much what we’re trying to say,” the band says. “We had an amazing guy from Joburg, Tsvi Karp, feature in the video and he’s just the most amazing human and completely out there in terms of how he dresses and sees the world. He was perfect for the video.” As mentioned, the song appears on the band’s new EP ‘Forms and Function Part 2’ which drops everywhere on the 7th of October. This is yet another fantastic single from the band.
