Francois Van Coke is back with a bang! The rocker has just launched his third studio album ‘Dagdrome In Suburbia’ with an epic Francois Van Coke En Vriende concert at Pretoria’s popular Time Square casino and now, he’s opening up about his highly-anticipated third solo offering.
The 11-track album is Francois’ most exciting work to date. It kicks off with an intro by legendary newsman Riaan Cruywagen, followed by new hits and collaborations with the rapper Riky Rick, Afrikaans rock favourites Spoegwolf, The Voice SA Season 3 winner Tasché, and Fokofpolisiekar bandmate Hunter Kennedy.
The album is certainly a collaborative one and sees the rocker team up with more artists than ever before on the record. However, he also joined forces with a variety of songwriters, producers, recording at different studios and making use of a few different mixing engineers. A highlight is a duet with Tasché who he coached on the popular reality show on a track titled ‘Hey Babe’. “I asked Tasché if she wanted to sing on the track because I knew she’d do wonders with it. So we booked a day in studio with Fred [den Hartog] and she went in alongside Wynand [Myburgh], Hunter [Kennedy] and a whole bunch of people who have been making music forever,” Francois said in a recent interview. “She hasn’t recorded in studio since she was 13 and she went in there and nailed it with all these people around her and after everything it made me go, ‘Wow this girl really is something super special’.”
Francois adds that on the album’s lead single, he was excited to get into the studio with Spoegwolf. “Spoegwolf has become a big voice in the Afrikaans music industry over the last few years. I really wanted to do something with them, so I reached out to Danie. According to him Spoegwolf are all Fokofpolisiekar fans, so they were amped for the collaboration. We made a deal that if they feature on one of my songs, I will feature on one of their songs on their next album. So, we all win all the time!”
‘Dagdrome In Suburbia’ is now available on all major digital music platforms and in music stores across the country.
