Last year, nearly 11 years after the release of their previous album, local rock legends Fokofpolisiekar released their comeback record ‘Selfmedikasie’. The album included the hit ‘Komma’ and is one of the group’s most celebrated records to date. Now, in a surprising move, the group has announced the release of a brand-new five-track EP titled ‘Droom Hoog’.
The group says that the new EP is fresh, yet filled with nostalgic lyrical and musical references to their own and other musical influences.
“Before Selfmedikasie we did not write anything together as Fokof for a long time. Getting started on new music was a huge challenge, but once we got into our old/new flow, the music just started coming. I think the creative process, the great response to the new music and the crazy crowdfunding campaign left us excited and wanting to create more. We ended up booking studio time and recording the 5 new DROOM HOOG tracks in August this year. It all happened very fast and we just kept on trusting each other and the process. We are proud of the new songs and I hope that people will enjoy it as much as we do,’’ says the group’s Wynand Myburgh. Hunter Kennedy adds that “The EP is a brain fart. It is unpolished and unravels at the seams and I love it like that!”
The first release of DROOM HOOG is a limited edition CD that will only be available in the 2018 edition of the Fokof Lager boxes. On 1st November 2018 it will be available on all digital platforms.
