When I was younger, I used to come home from school and eagerly await the next episode of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. The series became one of the most popular children’s shows in the world with multiple spin-offs and live action movies. So, I was stoked when I heard the franchise is coming back to life in 2017! However, after seeing images of the new suit and Rita Repulsa, I was highly disappointed and now that the film’s teaser trailer has been released, I’m even more concerned this film is going to be a huge flop.
The trailer lacks everything the Power Rangers became for a kid in the 90s. The comedic aspect of the show seems to have disappeared entirely as the trailer shows a dark, grittier version of the franchise. I’m also not entirely sure why we only catch a glimpse of the new suits towards the end. Other than that, the rangers seem to have inherited some sort of super powers (which doesn’t seem to be coming from their rangers suit). While we get a glimpse of other bullies, Bulk and Skull don’t make an appearance this time around and neither do the Zords. Oh, and anyone else pissed the group didn’t shout ‘It’s Morphin’ Time’ once? Let’s hope the next trailer gives us more of the Power Rangers we know and love because judging from this trailer, the film is going to be a disappointment.
