There’s a new act making waves on the local pop scene. Edisontide drop their debut self-titled EP tomorrow and as they prepare for the EP’s release, they have chosen ‘The Conspirator’ to serve as the lead single off the project. The band was formed early in 2014 and since then have steadily been making a name for themselves in South Africa and abroad.
The single is a great introduction to the band. Lyrically, the song is strong and makes an impact on first listen – something that is important for a new band to do. I love how the simple beat and edgy guitar riff compliment each other. The rest of the production is impressive as the band explores a darker take on traditional pop. Frontman Jordi van Dyk delivers an excellent vocal performance thanks to his smooth, bold voice and I’m excited to see just how much he can push his voice on other material.
As mentioned, the band drops their debut EP tomorrow after heading into the studio with SAMA-nominated producer Ewald Jansen van Rensburg. On the EP, Jordi says that “The entire recording process was a unique experience for us and we really enjoyed the entire journey. It was spontaneous and driven by what felt right, for each song. For me personally, it was a journey of learning to trust my own instincts as a songwriter and I’m sure I can say the same for the rest of the band. Our producer was incredible and it was a privilege to work with him. In a sense, I’d say this entire EP is an honest reflection of who we are as a band.” This is a solid debut single from the band and I’m excited to see what they have in store.
