British singer and model, Dua Lipa, is easily one of my favourite newcomers. She’s the voice behind the hits ‘Hotter Than Hell’, ‘Be The One’, ‘Blow Your Mind (Mwah!)’ and ‘Lost In Your Light’ and after releasing her debut self-titled album last month, the singer is starting promotion on the next single off the album – the fan favourite ‘New Rules’.
The song, written by Dua alongside Emily Warren, Caroline Ailin and Ian Kirkpatrick is a song about staying away from an ex after a break-up. In the song, Dua Lipa sings about a boy she fell head over heels for – but for some reason, the relationship didn’t work out. Now, to get over him, she has given herself a new set of rules. “One, don’t pick up the phone, you know he’s only calling because he’s drunk and alone,” the star sings. “Two, don’t let him in, you’ll have to kick him out again. Three, don’t be his friend, you know you’re gonna wake up in his bed in the morning, and if you’re under him you ain’t getting over him.”
Today, the singer released the song’s music video which she admits is the best she has ever done. The video shows Dua and her friends in a hotel room having an epic slumber party as they lay down her set of new rules in order to help her get over her former lover. The video is aesthetically pleasing to watch. Not only is it filmed beautifully filmed, but the costumes, choreography and sets add so much to the message she is trying to send out. The song is a pop gem and it’s easily the best single she has released to date. Even Coldplay’s Chris Martin tweeted that he couldn’t get enough of the song! ‘New Rules’ is just another piece of evidence that proves the star is on track to become one of pop’s biggest female artists.
