Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris – Hype

Every time I hear a Dizzee Rascal track I instantly get flashbacks to the club scene seven years ago when he would play every night at almost every single club. He has been on the down-low since releasing his previous album, ‘The Fifth’, back in 2013 but he’s ready for his comeback as he teams up with Calvin Harris to release their brand new single, ‘Hype’.

The track is the third time the two have collaborated with each other, following 2008’s ‘Dance Wiv Me’ and ‘Here 2 China’ off Calvin’s 2012 album, ’18 Months’. The song sees a brand new, upgraded Dizzee Rascal effortlessly take on the current music scene – one which has changed a lot since his previous record. Dizzee again brings the heat with the party anthem as he blends his cheeky raps over Calvin’s infectious beat. We love the instrumental chorus and it’s clearly one that is going to take radio and clubs by storm but I can’t help but hear so much of Bittereinder and Shane Durrant’s Kwaad Naas all over it.

While the song is weak lyrically, it definitely brings a feeling of nostalgia with it and it’s good to see Dizzee Rascal back at it doing what he does best. After doing a sterling job with this single, I’m more excited than ever to hear what the singer has up his sleeve with his upcoming record. We hope it lives up to the hype.
