It’s been no easy feat becoming one of the biggest Afrikaans pop bands in the country, but Die Heuwels Fantasties have got to this point with ease. Not only does their music identify with so many across the country, but it’s music that could easily compete on an international level. After releasing two smash hits off their latest album, ‘Ja. Nee. Lekker’, which was released last year, the boys have chosen ‘Sy’ as the fourth single – and it’s already taking off stronger than they’ve ever imagined.
The band releases another synth-driven pop track which is incredibly melodic. The one thing I really enjoy about Die Heuwels Fantasties is their ability to tell a story which many of the country’s youth identify with. ‘Sy’ is no different. The love song is beautifully written which sets this song apart from many other generic love songs on radio at the moment. I think this song has also become so popular because it’s not something we’re used to hearing from the group.
The band has released a simple yet effective video for the single. It has a strong message behind the ‘80s-inspired visuals. The song has already been charting on various charts around the country and recently hit number one on Jacaranda FM’s Afrikaans Top 20 and Top 20 charts. The Die Heuwels Fantasties boys delivered a stellar single and I’m excited to see where the track takes them. Remember to support local music by buying this song on iTunes today.
