After teaming up with Goldfish on ‘Deep of the Night’, which has become one of the biggest local releases of 2017, Diamond Thug return to their indie roots with their spacey new single ‘Eclipsed’. The sound for ‘Eclipsed’ is crafted by incorporating bouncing synthesizers, afro-rhythmic drum beats and perfectly placed guitars. Lead singer, Chantel Van T, has an exceptional vocal and gives another soothing delivery with this performance. It’s not a commercial single by any stretch of the matter, but the group have crafted an incredibly special single. It’s fresh and different and is another exciting single from the group.
“Eclipsed represents the state of being overshadowed by someone, knowing that only once you find the strength to break away will you be free to come into your own. It’s about fighting the belief that you belong in someone else’s shadow and resisting the urge to value the familiarity of their darkness over your own light,” Chantel explains.
The song appears on the group’s upcoming debut album which is scheduled for release in February next year. Although the group formed back in 2012, they have yet to release an album. They did, however, release a fantastic EP back in 2016 called ‘Monday Will Have To Wait’. To date, the EP has garnered over 150,000 streams across various digital platforms. So, it’s no surprise that the group has been hard at work preparing for their next release and if ‘Eclipsed’ is anything to go by, they’re going to release one of the best indie records out of South Africa in a long time.
