Local pop group December Streets dominated the airwaves with their latest single ‘Mexico’ and have since been hard at work recording their upcoming brand new EP which drops everywhere on 13 October. The band admits that they have been experimenting and re-writing material over and over again to ensure nothing but their best material makes it onto the upcoming project and now that it’s complete, the group has revealed that ‘Wild Heart’, their new collaboration with Thieve, will serve as the official next single.
December Streets have always offered something different and their unique approach to pop music continues with this new single. The pop song is the perfect summer hit. It’s got cool, calming guitar riffs, smooth vocal performances and a great catchy hook. Despite the summery sonic approach, the song is about heartbreak. The group sings about coming to terms with a relationship that is sinking. “It addresses the realization that an old love is moving on and slipping out of your grip. While you’re trying to figure out what is actually happening, the other has already lived a full, different life,” says Tristan Coetzee, the group’s lead singer tells us. “You’re completely absorbed and living the moment but realize the other person cannot or does not want to be contained in the confides of your relationship. Their eagerness, hunger for life driven by a motive you will never understand – ambition, fear, adventure and self-discovery, always on the search for something more.”
The song reminds us just how unique December Streets are to the local music space. Their take on pop music has heart, emotion and is catchy as hell. The track has made us incredibly excited for the band’s new EP and we can’t wait to be playing this song over and over again this summer.
