The December Streets have found themselves in a rather difficult position. Thanks to the string of hits they’ve released over the past few years, fans expect only the best material from them with every release. Luckily, their new banger ‘22’ is a summery, fresh anthem that doesn’t disappoint.
The track is filled with nostalgia-riddled lyrics which throws back to the group’s early days – living and touring in their adolescence. The song is packed with relatable lyrics and melodic energy, bound to launch you straight back into their decade long musical and life journey or sweet memories of your own youth.
The new single speaks to the trials of growing up and getting tied up in the laborious realities of adulthood, often losing touch with our younger selves. This is rounded up with a call to shed that pressure and go back to the care-free living we know and want all to well.
“When writing this song I wanted to channel a feel-good energy of our journey so far as a band and as individuals, which also relates closely enough to the memories we all experienced in our early twenties. A care-free, adventurous and invincible time of life,” Tristan Coetzee, the lead singer of the group tells us.
The track is accompanied by a simple lyric video – a perfect way to learn the words to the catchy track. The video also features Tristan singing the song in front of a blue background wearing a black sweater and scruffy hair.
‘22’ serves as the second single off the band’s highly anticipated second studio album to be released mid-2021. The album is set to arrive almost eight years after the release of their debut album ‘This is’ – something that is way overdue.
