Dan Duminy Kicks Off 2026 With Raw New Single ‘Trigger’

South African singer-songwriter Dan Duminy is stepping into 2026 with a sharper sense of purpose, and a willingness to sit in the discomfort that comes with real emotional honesty. His new single, ‘Trigger,’ released this week, captures the moment when healing feels complete… until it isn’t. “2026 feels like a reset for me,” Duminy tells us. “I’m entering this year more self-aware, more grounded, and more confident in my voice. I’m moving with clarity instead of reaction.”

Built around the unsettling experience of emotional near-closure being suddenly disrupted, Trigger explores what happens when unresolved feelings resurface without warning. The track doesn’t dramatise the moment — it confronts it head-on. “It’s about thinking something was over, only to be emotionally dragged back into it,” Duminy explains. “We wanted the song to feel immediate — like you’re standing face-to-face with something you weren’t ready to revisit.”

That sense of immediacy carries through both the songwriting and the production. Duminy created the single alongside Ryan Curtis, Cesar Peralta, and Jordan James, one of his closest friends — a collaboration that allowed vulnerability to take centre stage. “It didn’t feel like a traditional session,” he says. “It felt like a conversation. Having that level of trust made it easier to be vulnerable and let the song lead.”

Trigger also signals the beginning of a new creative era for Duminy, one defined less by emotional distance and more by directness. Where earlier work leaned into metaphor and restraint, this release strips those layers back. “This song opens the door to a phase of my music where I’m not hiding behind metaphors or walls,” Duminy adds. “It’s vulnerable, but it feels right — and I think a lot of people will hear themselves in it.”

The single arrives ahead of Duminy’s highly anticipated debut EP, ‘Born To Bleed’, which he describes as his most honest body of work to date. While a release date is still under wraps, Duminy says the project will roll out deliberately. “Born To Bleed is about emotional truth,” he explains. “For a long time, I tried to shut down the part of me that feels deeply. This EP is about embracing vulnerability as strength, not weakness.” He adds “The EP is a journey — from chaos to clarity. By the end, there’s growth.”

With ‘Trigger’, Dan Duminy sets the tone for a year defined by emotional clarity, consistency, and fearless self-reflection — a reset not just in sound, but in intent.
