Music from the African continent is certainly making the rest of the world sit up and listen and one of the bright talents in the African music space right now is Nigerian pop star CKay.
August of this year saw him drop a series of remixes of hit hit single ‘love nwantiti’ featuring friends from around the world including Elgrande Toto from Morocco, Franglish hailing from France, and US Latin star De La Ghetto among them. November 2020 saw a feature and co-production credits on Nigerian superstar Davido’s ‘A Better Time’ album. Now, as he readies the release of his sophomore EP ‘Boyfriend’ due early 2021, the star has premiered his new single ‘Felony’.
‘Felony’ is a beautifully crafted single that effortlessly crosses between Afrobeats and new-age RnB. Lyrically, Ckay admits to the depths that he would go for his love – ”inna my song you’re the melody, I go sleep for cell if loving you is a felony” which translated from pidgin means: “In my song, you’re the melody, I would sleep in a (jail) cell if loving you is a felony.”
