Pop singer Carli J Myers makes her return to the music scene this week and this time, she’s brought Mathew Gold along for the ride as the duo join forces on a new single titled ‘Just Sayin’. The song serves as the follow-up singe to Carli’s previous hits ‘’.
The song came about during Carli’s recent trip to New York to run the NY Marathon where, after a meeting with BMI Vice-President Charlie Feldman, Carli was introduced to American Idol Top 8 finalist and singer-songwriter, Robbie Rosen. With only a few hours in the studio, the duo completed the track.
On the inspiration behind the track, Carli says that “Just Sayin’ was inspired by the title. For a while I had been hearing the phrase ‘Just Sayin’ being used as a cheeky and playful threat that often unintentionally slipped into a conversation.” She adds that “It’s the kind of threat that you don’t really mean, but you do mean! I had this feeling it would make a great title for a song. I brought the idea to Robbie, we played around with the concept, had some fun building on some ideas, and ended up with ‘Just Sayin’ as you hear it. The song is about being utterly obsessed with your other half, but their uncontrollable obsession with their cellphone really pushes your buttons, Pun intended!”
Carli, however, felt that the song needed a male vocal to help elevate the message and emotion she wanted to share on the track. “I played the song to Mathew Gold over lunch. He’d only heard about the first 40 seconds when he hit pause and said to me “Cool I am down! Let’s do it!”. And that was that! We recorded the rest of the vocals between Cape Town and Joburg in a matter of days. Mathew is such a great guy and I have loved working with him!” says Carli.
‘Just Sayin’ is out now on all major digital music platforms.
