Black Coffee Wins His Very First Grammy Award

Music’s biggest night finally took place in Las Vegas last night after initially being delayed as a result of the Omicron Covid-19 variant. Hosted by Mzansi’s own Trevor Noah for a second time, the ceremony celebrated all those who made an impact in the global music space over the past year.

The South African DJ and producer took home the trophy for the Best Dance/Electronic Album for his hit record ‘Subconsciously’.

“I want to thank God for the gift of music and being able to share it with the world and heal souls and help people go through whatever they’re going through in life,” he said during his acceptance speech. “I want to thank my fans all over the world and people who follow what I do, thank you so much for believing in me. I want to thank my family and my children.”

He adds “I want to thank everyone who is on the album, from Msaki in South Africa, to David Guetta, who had believed in working with a smaller artist like myself, and trusting me and trusting my ear. Pharrell (Williams), Josie, Delilah, Una Rams and everyone who is on the album.”

In an interview with the Grammys after his win, the DJ gave a shout out to “the African kids who are watching who come from where I come from who think they don’t have a chance,” he says. “I wanted to just say to them it’s possible; the award is not just for me; it’s just to show them.”

Congrats, Black Coffee! Africa is incredibly proud of you!
