BigStar Johnson Drops His Debut Album ‘Me & Mines’

Earlier this month, BigStar Johnson announced that he has inked a new record deal with Warner Music South Africa in conjunction with Vth Season. The star announced that he would be dropping his debut album ‘Me & Mines’ and subsequently premiered ‘Sgubu’, the project’s lead single featuring Kwesta. Now, the project is out and the response has been incredible.

As expected, ‘Me & Mines’ is an incredibly personal album for BigStar Johnson. It touches on subjects such as growing up, friendship, kinship, fatherhood and the ‘good old days’. “Currently I’m at a place where I’m the most comfortable that I’ve ever been in the industry. And I’m finally at a place where I feel I can express myself, so I’m hella excited about the future and what it holds for me,” BigStar Johnson says.

The 12-track album features collaborations from the likes of Kaylo, Rouge, Zoocci Coke Dope, Jay Claude and more. Sonically, BigStar has found a comfortable place in between the music he grew up on and the hip-hop landscape today which makes ‘Me & Mines’ an incredibly interesting listen.

BigStar Johnson came to life in 2012 when he decided to embark on his solo career as a rapper and got his big break in 2015 when he won the reality hip-hop competition, The Hustle on Vuzu which scored him a management deal from Vth Season. ‘Me & Mines’ has been years worth of hard work and BigStar Johnson is excited for the country to finally get an honest glimpse of who he is as a person.
