Beyoncé is back! Queen Bey has dropped a surprise new single over the weekend and, as expected, the whole world went crazy. At this point, it’s not confirmed if the track will serve as the follow-up to her 2013 self-titled album or not but one thing is for sure, we’re glad Beyoncé is back!
The track and accompanying music video sees the singer tackle major issues black people face in America. Well, that, and she reminds us just how rich she really is. Honestly, the song didn’t blow us away. Although the beat is banging thanks to Mike Will Made-It, Beyoncé just seems too hard core on this track. Beyoncé has definitely taken a more urban route with her music. Lyrically, the song is fantastic. It’s incredibly personal and the singer opens up on her past and present. we like the urban route she has but Formation is just too messy.
That being said, Bey released one of the best music videos of her career with this song. Beyoncé has tackled huge issues such as police brutality, the Black Lives Matter campaign, how minorities are still affected after the devastating Hurricane Katrina and even smaller issues like Blue Ivy’s afro. Although the song isn’t mind-blowing, we respect Beyoncé for her ability to start a conversation. She is a personality who isn’t afraid to open her mouth on issues many are facing not only in the United States but around the world, and it’s that that has made her such a huge star. She speaks to the people and voices their concern – something many artists shy away from. Slay, Queen Bey!
