Beatenberg And Msaki Make Magic On New Single ‘White Shadow’

It’s hard to believe that it has been four years since Beatenberg dropped new music. The local trio made their highly-anticipated return earlier this year with ‘The Lighthouse of Alexandria’, which they dropped in June and ‘Time Machine’ which premiered in July. Now, they’re back with a third release as they unite with Mskai for ‘White Shadow’.

“‘White Shadow’ was an incomplete demo I had lying around for a long time – everyone liked it but we couldn’t settle on a chorus,” the band’s vocalist Matthew Field says. “At some point we decided to reach out to our friend Msaki since we love her music and sensibilities and thought she could help us find the missing piece of the puzzle – and she did!”

He adds “We started with some sessions in Cape Town and finished the production and made the video in London. The song is on the longer side for us and goes through some twists and turns; the lyrics are similarly winding and seem to sprawl across a variety of landscapes and feelings. This seems fitting given the time and geographic span of the making of the song.”

Beatenberg will premiere their brand-new EP on 10 November and are expected to drop some exciting information about a homecoming tour later this year, including a performance at Constitution Hill on 3 December 2022.

“We’re all really glad to be playing in South Africa again. Even though we’re increasingly working and spending time in other countries, it remains a hugely important place for us. It’ll likely be an emotional experience, and I hope it brings the best out of us. See you soon South Africa!” Field concludes.
