Armand Joubert has cemented himself as one of the most popular queer pop acts in the country. He isn’t afraid to share important messages laced on a catchy pop beat and he continues doing just that as he drops his new single ‘Better For Me’.
The track, produced by Hendrin Joerges, is all about forgiveness – both to those who have wronged you and, probably most importantly, to yourself. Armand explains that the song is about freeing yourself from the past and moving on from any relationship that has deteriorated.
Sonically, Armand explains that his idol Britney Spears inspired this track. “Since I was a young boy, I’ve always been a Britney Spears fan,” Armand explains. “She was the reason I fell in love with pop music and over the years I’ve discovered a lot more of her vocal mannerisms in my voice and music. So, I decided that with my new release, I want to channel her and showcase the influence she’s had on me and my music.”
He adds that he wanted to blend his favourite Britney era with his love for Arabian music which was exactly how ‘Better For Me’ was born. “Something people don’t know about me is that I am also obsessed with Arabian music as well as Bollywood music. Their choice of scales make me feel so alive and its incredibly pleasing to listen to. I truly acknowledge and appreciate the skill that these artists have so I wanted to showcase that as well with my voice.”
Vocally, Armand sounds better than ever. He has found the sweet spot between delivering catchy pop tracks and delivering vocal performances that are out of this world.
