Anne-Marie has been one of the most exciting acts to watch in 2017. The star had a successful year thanks to ‘Rockabye’, her major collaboration with Clean Bandit, ‘Ciao Adios’ and ‘Heavy’ – all which received a great amount of airplay in South Africa. Now, the star is back with another impressive single as she drops her highly-anticipated new release ‘Then’.
‘Then’ is the break-up song we didn’t know we needed. The production is smooth and powerful and the dance beats bring an element of strength and empowerment to the performance. A break-up is never an easy thing so, naturally, Anne-Marie needed to give an emotional vocal delivery to really share the message – and she smashed it. The star tones down her vocals instead of belting out the message which is important with a subject as delicate as this. The pain is evident in her voice and it’s something that so many people around the world would be able to relate to.
While the production and vocal delivery is on point, Anne-Marie also did a fantastic job with the track’s lyrical content. “And when you think of my body on yours, don’t forget once I would have died for you,” she sings on the chorus. “But that was then.”
The song is expected to appear on Anne-Marie’s highly-anticipated debut album which is expected to release later this year. The star brings something different to the table. Her take on pop music is refreshing and relatable. ‘Then’ proves that she has what it takes to be one of the biggest pop stars in the world and we have a feeling 2018 will be a big year for Anne-Marie.
