Talk about levels! Earlier this year, AKA inked a deal with Reebok to create his very own sneaker. After some time working on the design element of the shoe, the rapper unveiled the final product to the public. Today, #TheSneAKA went on sale for the public and with only 600 pairs of shoes available, the sneaker sold out in a staggering 10 minutes via Reebok’s online store.
Speaking of the record sale, Brian Jackson, Brand Activation Manager Reebok South Africa, expressed his excitement at #TheSneAKA selling out so quickly, with fans desperate to get their feet into a pair of the rap mogul’s sneakers.
“This collaboration is two years in the making, and both Reebok and AKA have poured an unprecedented amount of passion, determination and devotion into the project,” he explains. “AKA is by far one of South Africa’s most influential and passionate artists, and his artistic vision is not limited to his music but is reflected in his personal style. This is embodied in #TheSneAKA.”
He adds that “Reebok has partnered with celebrities in other countries like the US with great success, but this is the first time we have done it with a South African artist. We were a bit unsure about how South Africans would respond, but we needn’t have worried; we are blown away by the overwhelmingly positive response from Reebok fans.”
