Now this is what I’m talking about! BET today announced the official nominees for the 2016 BET Awards to be held in Los Angeles next month and three South African acts were nominated! AKA, Black Coffee and Cassper Nyovest found themselves nominated for the Best International Act (Africa) award and, naturally, they’re over the moon about the news.
Although eight nominees were announced in the catagory, South Africa leads the pack with three nominations. “Look at God!!! Words cannot express how grateful I am to have such a loving God!!! All the glory to him!!! Let’s bring the first South African BET home!!! This is for all the independent artists out there!!! For all the African kids with a dream!!!,” Cassper said shortly after hearing the news.
Internationally, Drake leads the list of entertainers nominated at this year’s awards with an impressive nine nominations including “Best Male Hip Hop Artist”, “Video of Year”, and “Best Collaboration” for his hit “Where Ya At” with fellow hip hop artist Future. Beyoncé and Rihanna follow with five nods each with Beyoncé scoring nominations in “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist”, “Video of the Year”, and “Best Collaboration” for “Feeling Myself” with Nicki Minaj. Rihanna is in the running for awards including “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist”, “Video of the Year” and “Best Collaboration” for “Work” featuring Drake.
