ADAM Returns From The Dead After Disbandment Last Year; New Single ‘Liefde Is’ Out Now

Last year, local pop group ADAM made the difficult decision to disband. Former member Reynardt Hugo was embarking on his solo career while Hugo Ludik and Kyle Grant also had other musical interests they wanted to pursue. Then, lockdown happened and Hugo and Kyle realised just how much the band meant to them. So, they started preparing their comeback and searched for a third member to join their group.

n August 2019 we decided to split up and Reynardt Hugo pursued his solo-career,” Hugo Ludik tells us. “But lockdown changed our perspective and we realized that we are not done with ADAM yet. My recording studio, Muse Studios, is at my house and I was lucky enough to be able to keep busy and ‘work’ during this very difficult time. Although we are writing songs for other artists on a daily basis, ADAM has always been my way of showcasing my own music and I have really missed doing that.”

Hugo explains that “Life after lockdown is like a new beginning. Business is picking up; I am producing music with Rubber Duc/ Posduif on a permanent basis and I am getting married soon. I haven’t been this content in a while… but Kyle and I miss not being able to perform live and that is why we are reviving the group.”

However, with Reynardt embarking on a solo career, there was a gap in the band that needed to get filled before making their comeback. Hugo and Kyle embarked on a search for a new member and finally crossed paths with Christoff de Beer who was a perfect fit for the band.

Stoff has been working in the music industry for sixteen years and was part of groups like Roots of Youth, Rymstoff and 7 Grade Noord. He was also Kurt Darren’s lead guitarist for three years. He describes himself as a laidback soul, who enjoys listening to artists like Bon Jovi, Machine Gun Kelly, Blue October and 1975, loves to braai and coaches rugby in his spare time. He has great respect and admiration for Hugo and Kyle and is excited about working with them.

“We have a lot of fun together and Kyle and Hugo have given me the opportunity to just be myself. Something that a session musician is not allowed to do,” Stoff tells us. Hugo adds that “Christoff and I have known each other for a long time and have even collaborated on projects in the past. He also filled in for Kyle in ADAM for a while. I have the utmost respect for him as a person and musician.”

Now that the group had found its third member, the trio started working on new music – and they’re finally ready to step back into the limelight. ADAM’s comeback hit is titled ‘Liefde Is’ and is a feel good pop song about a couple who is trapped in different towns during lockdown. The guy is thinking about his girlfriend and wondering if their relationship is going to survive this difficult time. He then realises that their love is strong and has overcome many obstacles in the past and that this time was going to be no different.

“Some love stories and relationships just have that something special that will make them last, even in the most difficult circumstances,” explains Hugo, who wrote the song with Posduif/ Rubber Duc’s Nic Jordaan. “The song reminds me of my own relationship. LIEFDE IS is an upbeat feelgood song that will leave you feeling nostalgic but will also make you feel like dancing. We want to offer listeners something positive during this dark time and hope that they will enjoy it.”

Kyle continues saying that the music video is going to be just as fun and energetic as the song and that love will be depicted as a colourful neon dance party. “The video will be available soon and is going to be modern and sexy, with neon lights, pretty girls and great dancers,” he reveals. “It will be produced in studio by RM Productions and I will be directing and editing it myself. With this project, we want to bring an international vibe to the Afrikaans market, and we are very excited about sharing this concept with the public.”

‘Liefde Is’ serves as the perfect introduction to ADAM’s new era. “We are very proud of the song and it has always been important for us to include new and modern elements in our music,
Stoff adds. “We love our language and believe that there is no reason why our songs cannot compete with international pop music. We wrote a lot of new songs during lockdown and cannot wait to share it with fans!”
