The X Factor UK Winner had a very successful run with his debut self-titled album. The record achieved gold status in both the UK and South Africa and although he ultimately split with Simon Cowell’s Syco, he’s back with some brand new music. The star has been working on his upcoming EP and has just released ‘Alive’ featuring South African pop star ChianoSky as the record’s lead single.
The song continues to showcase Ben’s beautifully rich vocal and songwriting ability. The single is built quite simply and relies on Ben’s strength’s to evelate it – something it does effortlessly. The track is incredibly catchy and the perfect fit for radio. It’s also great to see the star join forces with our very own red-headed beauty on the pop song. The stars shared the same record label and since his album was so popular in South Africa, the collaboration seemed like a no-brainer – especially as it serves as Ben’s first independent release. ChianoSky adds a great dynamic to the song. Her voice blends beautifully with Ben’s and the two seem to have great chemistry.
“My inspiration for ‘Alive’ was and is the fans. I had the idea for the song towards the end of the first tour which was after the drop from Syco. I had doubts about carrying on, and it was really the support of the fans that kept me going and kept my dream alive,” Ben explains. “I owe it all to them and wanted to write almost a thank you song. Going out on stage night after night on that tour and having people singing along and going crazy at the shows is an incredible feeling. It gave me my confidence back after parting ways with a major label.”
