‘Despacito’ Is Now The Most Streamed Song In The World

Justin Bieber has done it again! Up until recently, the Canadian singer’s smash hit ‘Sorry’ was the most streamed song in the world. But, he has officially surpassed himself as ‘Despacito’, his collaboration with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, sets a new record!

Across all major streaming platforms, the original version (Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee) and the Spanglish remix (featuring Justin Bieber) have a combined streams tally of 4.6 billion plays, surpassing the previous record 4.38 billion record set by Justin Bieber.

While many think the song was a hit only after Justin Bieber jumped on the song, this is not the case. The song hit number one in Latin America back in January and when Justin Bieber heard the song in a club, he asked Luis to add a verse onto the track.

“Streaming is a connector for audiences worldwide and it has helped my music reach every corner of the planet. It is truly an honour that ‘Despacito’ is now the most streamed song in history,” Luis Fonsi said after hearing the news. The star adds that as he prepares to release his next single, he knows it will unlikely be as successful. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I don’t want to be a pessimist about it. I don’t want to be negative about it. But my next song, I can’t approach it thinking, ‘How do I beat Despacito?,” he admits. “Do you really expect to win the lottery twice? We just have to be grateful for what we’ve done and go forward.”
