R&B singer, songwriter Masandi is back with new music this week as he drops his new anthem ‘Amagate’.
The single, which means gates in isiZulu, drops after Masandi embarked on a short hiatus of self-discovery and introspection and sees the star embark on a new sonic adventure and this song is the first time Masandi is introducing this new sound he is experimenting with to fans.
Lyrically, ‘Amagate’ loosely translates to having the gates opened. Not only is this a metaphor for theeasing of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, but also a reminder that people should live their lives and have a good time.
The song is also a metaphoric expression of Masandi’s decision to break out of the Afropop genre and move into the inspirational space. This change came after he made a pact he made with G-d after a life threatening car crash left him pleading for his life.
“The song is about us getting back to living and experiencing life to its fullest. It’s about good times, good vibes and simply making the most of our freedom,” Masandi tells us.
