It’s always a big moment when the global music space hones in on talent from South Africa. Acts like Master KG and Nasty C are doing some major things internationally and today, American record label Republic Records announced that they have signed local musician Lloysio to their stable.
Lloyiso is no stranger to the local music space after placing fifth on Idols South Africa when he was just 16 years old. Today, the star is a social media phenomenon who often posts covers of tracks he identifies with on Facebook and YouTube.
However, things really started to change when he discovered TikTok. He gained the endorsement of everyone from Kygo to Tyga and released viral renditions of Rihanna, Billie Eilish, Lewis Capaldi, generating tens of millions of views and attracting the attention of labels worldwide.
Now, as he makes history as the first South African artist signed to Republic Records, Lloyiso drops his brand-new single ‘Seasons’. The single is a beautiful ballad which effortlessly showcases the star’s raw, emotional vocal and excellent songwriting ability.
“I try to tap into untapped emotions,” Lloysio tells us. “I’m a very sensitive person by nature. When you listen to me, I hope you get in touch with the same feelings and you end up crying, smiling, or dancing. I’m just excited to connect on an intimate level.”
On the song, Lloyiso explains “I was feeling insecure about myself. I wondered why I was bothered when people weren’t there for me during times that I needed them. I needed to bring myself back to life, so I took all of those emotions and put them into the song. It’s about the realization you don’t need anyone else’s love but your own. It’s sad song and a happy song all at once. It’s an affirmation to love myself.”
Welcoming Lloyiso to the label, Republic Records Executive Vice President of A&R Brett Alperowitz commented, “Lloyiso has all the makings of a career superstar—knockout vocals, incredible songwriting, and an amazing story to tell. He’s the rare talent who not only transcends genres, but crosses borders as well.”
