Ever since the Ndlovu Youth Choir wowed fans on a global stage on the popular reality series ‘America’s Got Talent’, they’ve been a force to be reckoned with. Over the last few weeks, they recorded a cover of ‘Square Root Of Possible’ for Netflix’s original Christmas fliek ‘Jingle Jangle’ and dueted with pop superstar P!nk on a cover of ‘A Million Dreams’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack. Now, as the festive season draws nearer, the choir has put their own twist on the Mariah Carey classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
The music video for the track, also released today, was filmed in the group’s home town of Moutse, Limpopo and tells a story of a gogo distraught at the fact that she may have to spend Christmas alone.
“When all of a sudden, she [gogo] hears the familiar sounds of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and looks out her window to find her grandson and his friends have transformed the garden into a wonderland of lights and music and merriment. She is overjoyed as she receives the best gift of the season: a reminder that no matter what life throws at us, we will always have each other,” the group explains in a statement.
“May our performance of Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ be a timely reminder to make this Christmas special for those at risk this year. Stay safe and reach out with love, care, and the spirit of Ubuntu,” the group adds.
