British Pop Act Steps To Drop Their Sixth Studio Album This November; New Single Out Now

It feels like a lifetime ago when British popstars Steps dominated the charts and radio across the world with hits like ‘5,6,7,8’, ‘Tragedy’ and ‘Last Thing On My Mind’, the duo is set to save 2020 with their brand-new album ‘What The Future Holds’ which is set to drop worldwide on 27 November 2020.

The five-piece just dropped the project’s title track as the lead single off the record. The song, written by Sia, has the group’s signature pop sound mixed with a futuristic flair that effortlessly sees the group adapt to the way pop music has evolved from their glory days of the early 2000s.

Said to reflect “both a deeper shade of blue and a brighter future”, the new album sees Steps reconnect with regular songwriting partners Fiona Bevan, Ina Wroldsen and Karl Twigg plus features songs written by Adele and P!nk hitmaker Greg Kurstin, Kylie collaborator Hannah Robinson and recent Number 1 act MNEK.

The album is the group’s first since 2017’s ‘Tears On The Dancefloor’ and will be the group’s first release under new label BMG. “[This is] a massive breath of fresh air,” the group’s H says. “The last time we did this, we did it all on our own. We are still in charge ultimately, but it’s lovely to have a massive machine behind us… that understands social media [laughs]. It’s such a minefield, it’s hard.”

H adds that the group has created music that is “unashamedly pop”, adding: “We know what we are and we never pretend to be anything we’re not. But it’s a really difficult one for us to remember where we came from but point to the future as well.”

The sound, while predictable, is something fans want to hear. “You just have to own what you’re doing and be confident with it,” the group’s Claire adds. “That sells it to everybody else. We’re not going ‘oh well, we’re not doing this or we know this isn’t the coolest thing’. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’.”

Faye continues “People wouldn’t accept us doing anything else. It would be disappointing to the fans. There are interesting different flavours on the album and it’s more of a rollercoaster than the last one, but that’s as far as we’ll go. It needs to stay and remain the pure pop the fans want.”
