South Africa’s pride and joy, the Ndlovu Youth Choir, is back with brand-new music as they continue to make the nation proud with their positive, proudly South African approach to music. Now, they’re back with a unique spin on Dolly Parton’s smash hit ‘Jolene’ – and they’ve just dropped a beautiful music video to accompany it.
The original track was released on October 15, 1973 as the first single and title track from Dolly’s self-titled album and produced by the legendary Bob Ferguson. The song was ranked No. 217 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of “the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time” in 2004.
Ndlovu Youth Choir stole our hearts in 2019 when they made their debut on America’s Got Talent for their jaw-dropping performance of Whitney Houston’s “Higher Love”. From there, the song went on to be a sensation on several radio stations across South Africa. The “Jolene” music video was shot in February 2020 in the Choir’s hometown of Moutse Valley in Limpopo and depicts how rooted the Choir are and have always been.
When asked about the new release the Choir said, “This is an opportunity for us to show the world all about our African roots and the uniqueness that is our sound”. Ralf Schmitt the Choir conductor adds “We are super excited for this release, the inspiration comes from our travels in America, we’ve always wanted to infuse our African sounds with an iconic American song, we hope everyone loves this fusion.”
