3 Things We Loved About Guns N’ Roses’ Johannesburg Show

Last night, rock legends Guns N’ Roses performed in South Africa for their very first time as their ‘Not In This Lifetime’ world tour made it’s way to the country. The ‘Not In This Lifetime’ world tour is currently the fourth highest-grossing tour of all time and local fans have been waiting decades for the band to perform on South African soil. The concert took place at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg last night wowed local audiences.

Here is a short list of everything we loved about the show:

Wonderboom was a fantastic opening act

Since Guns N’ Roses have been around since the 1980s, a local act with both history and the ability to rock and roll was necessary to fit the show’s portfolio and Wonderboom effortlessly fit the bill. Wonderboom have been making hits for over two decades and are responsible for tracks like ‘Shadows’, ‘Africa’ and many more. They have effortlessly become one of the biggest and most successful rock acts in the country and they put on a fantastic opening performance. Being a stadium show, the stage was huge but Cito and the gang owned every part of it. They looked incredible on the stage and gave a performance of a lifetime.

Guns N’ Roses Brought Their A-Game

The ‘Not In This Lifetime’ world tour has been running since April 2016 and is currently on it’s 10th leg meaning that the group knows exactly what they’re doing. Everything ran incredibly smoothly and was a beautiful theatrical experience for both the group and their fans. Axl Rose, who fell ill during his previous show in Abu Dhabi, gave a strong performance despite the illness bringing him down and Slash showed South Africa why he is one of the greatest guitarists in the world. The crowd roared when the group performed hits like “Welcome to the Jungle”, “Paradise City” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine”. It was the ultimate rock show and at over three hours long, Guns N’ Roses prove they’re still an incredible rock and roll act.

It was an incredibly fun show

Guns N’ Roses helped shape the rock and roll industry into what it is today and the impact the group had on music didn’t go unnoticed by local audiences. Many proudly wore their Guns N’ Roses T-Shirts and brought their friends or loved ones to sing along to some of the most popular songs in the world. The group made sure fans had the time of their lives with a fantastic stage setup, brilliant graphics and a kick-ass stage performance. The show is put together so brilliantly for the fans and seeing the show come to life like it did in Johannesburg gives us clarity on why the tour is the fourth highest-grossing world tour of all time.
