10 Movies I’m Excited For This Year

It may only be the start of 2015 but, as we all know, the movie world just doesn’t sleep. We’ve had some amazing films in 2014 such as X-Men: Days of Future Past, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Divergent, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, The Maze Runner, 22 Jump Street, Rio 2, Saving Mr Banks and many more.

As we kick off the new year with a bang, I took a look at the 2015 release schedule and put a list together of the 10 movies I’m most excited for this year.

Chappie

Neil Blomkamp releases another action-packed film shot in our very own back yard. After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot. Hugh Jackman and Die Antwoord star.

Cinderella

Disney retells the epic story of Cinderella this year as they dig deeper into young Ella whose father unexpectedly passes away and she is left in the care of her evil stepmother and step-sisters. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit. Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman steps forward and – armed with a pumpkin and a few mice – changes Cinderella’s life forever. Helena Bonham-Carter and Lily James star.

Minions

Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters-from T. rex to Napoleon-the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he-alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob-ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first-ever female super-villain. Sandra Bullock and Michael Keaton star.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

This is going to be one of the biggest films of 2015. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for a global adventure. Robert Downey Jnr and Chris Hemsworth star.

Pitch Perfect 2

Our favourite acapella groups are back in 2015! This sequel will follow Fat Amy and Beca through their senior year at Barden University. This time, the Barden Bellas enter into an international competition that no American team has ever won. We can’t wait to hear what amazing music the girls cover this time around. Oh, and we’re hoping for an original song as well. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson star.

Juarassic World

Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor’s interest, which backfires horribly. Expect a whole lot of drama, chaos and dinosaurs! Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard star.

Pan

Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the action adventure follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan. Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara star.

Tomorrowland

Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank, jaded by disillusionment, and Casey, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever. George Clooney and Britt Robertson star.

James Bond: Spectre

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre. Not much is known about the film as of yet but it’s set to be one of the biggest in the Bond franchise. Daniel Craig and Ralph Fiennes star.

Mad Max: Fury Road

This film has taken AGES to release and we will finally be watching it this May. Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron star.
