10 Massive Milestones Taylor Swift Achieved With Her New Album ‘Folklore’

It’s been just over a week since Taylor Swift released her eighth studio album ‘folklore’ – and, in true Taylor Swift style, it’s already made a massive impact. Not only did it debut at number one on the Billboard 200 with sales in excess of 846,000 copies and as we continue to hit the repeat button on this game-changing album from the singer, we take a look at some milestones the record has achieved over the past few days.

Taylor Swift proved that she’s still one of the biggest musicial acts in the world when ‘folklore’ garnered 80.6 million streams in its first day on Spotify – the biggest day for an album by a female artist. This means Taylor beat Ariana Grande‘s record with ‘thank u, next,’ which opened with 70.1 MILLION streams last year. Taylor also had the second biggest in the platform’s history with ‘Scorpion‘ by Drake taking the crown bringing in 132 million when it debuted back in 2018.

Seventh Consecutive #1 Album on the Billboard 200

As mentioned, ‘folklore’ came in at number one on the Billboard 200 chart making this Taylor’s seventh chart-topping record. The only album to miss the top spot was her self-titled debut which peaked at number five.

Biggest First-Week Sales of 2020 in the US

We’re used to Taylor breaking first-week and year-end sales charts and, again, Taylor brought in the biggest first-week sales in America this year so far. The album is also the biggest opening since Taylor’s ‘Lover‘ debuted at number one with 867,000 units last year.

Biggest-Selling Album of the Year in the US

Although the album has only been out for 11 days, ‘folklore’ is already the biggest-selling album of the year in America. It surpasses BTS‘ ‘MAP OF THE SOUL : 7‘ which has sold 574,000 copies earlier this year.

Taylor made a whole bunch of history with the release of ‘folklore’. One of the biggest being the fact that she becomes the first artist in history to sell over 500,000 copies in a single week with seven different albums – an unbelievable feat. With ‘folklore’ being a surprise release, Taylor managed to break another impressive record as she debuted at number one on the Billboard charts with both a song and an album simultaneously. As mentioned, ‘folklore’ topped the chart while the album’s lead single ‘cardigan’ made its debut atop of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

First Female Artist to Debut Two Songs in the Top 5 Simultaneously

While ‘cardigan’ made a number one debut on the Billboard Hot 100, fan-favourite ‘the one’ made its debut at number four on the chart making Taylor the first female artist to debut two songs in the chart’s top five simultaneously.

All 16 of the tracks on ‘folklore’ debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart which helped Taylor clinch the title of having the most Hot 100 entries among women with 113 entries in total. She now sits behind behind Drake (224), Glee Cast (207) and Lil Wayne (169).
