Born to Kenyan and Somali parents, and raised in Kenya, Nimco Happy is a mother of two who has been making music for over half a decade. She describes the intention for her breakout track ‘Isii Nafta’ to be rooted in “love and bringing people happiness” – and judging by the reaction, she has accomplished her goal!
Having originally found its audience in Somalia and Eastern Africa, footage of Nimco Happy performing her upbeat single began blowing up on TikTok. The clip has now been viewed millions of times, having been incorporated in posts by over 100,000 creators and is the #1 recommended song on the app.
‘Isii Nafta’ promotes a message of love and happiness and is sung in a mixture of Somali, English, Arabic and Swahili. The love song has captured the hearts of music fans globally – it’s even become a dancefloor staple amongst club DJs.
Unsurprisingly the track has caught on with its fair share of celebrity fans who have taken to social media to co-sign Nimco Happy. Drake declared “This song is so hard!”, Cardi B posted her first on-camera TikTok in months dancing to the song and racking up over 45 million views so far. Trevor Noah, Chunkz, Stefflon Don, Amine, Bella Hadid, Ms Banks and Ivorian Doll have all shown support.
