Review: Karabo – Matters Of The Heart

He won the hearts of thousands on Idols South Africa, ultimately winning the show back in 2015 and after proving just how incredible he is on his debut album ‘Love Is A Verb’, the crooner is back with another strong record as he drops ‘Matters Of The Heart’.

As expected, Karabo shows off his smooth, captivating vocals effortlessly as he delivers a perfect mix of mid-tempo R&B jams and beautiful ballads. I think what makes this record so special is the emotional performance Karabo delivers. It’s clear that each song means something special to the singer and the emotion shines through with each and every note. When an artist is able to connect with his audience on such an emotional level so effortlessly, magic truly does happen and this is exactly the case with this record.

Instrumentally, the album was recorded using live instruments – something refreshing from the major shift to digital production. There’s an old-school, yet timeless sound to the album and Karabo managed to create a solid follow-up record.

The album, however, is incredibly safe. Karabo doesn’t highlight the growth since his Idols journey and sticks to what his fans have come to know him for. I would have liked to see him step outside his comfort zone a little bit more and push himself artistically in ways we haven’t seen before.

This is the exciting thing about shows such as Idols. Karabo’s talent is undeniable and he just needed someone to take a chance on him. after the brilliance of this record, I’m so glad they did. This is a fantastic record.
