Review: Jason Bourne

A poor storyline destroyed what could have been an epic Bourne film.

Starring: Matt Damon and Tommy Lee Jones

Plot: Jason Bourne, the CIA’s most lethal former operative who went underground, is drawn out of the shadows. Several years after his mysterious disappearance, the trained killer now completely aware of who he is, wrestles with the consequences of his identity as he tracks down a colleague and starts to uncover hidden truths about his past.

Remarks: After Jeremy Renner appeared in ‘The Bourne Legacy’ back in 2012, I was excited to hear that Matt Damon would be returning to the franchise in ‘Jason Bourne’. However, the film just didn’t live up to the expectations set by the previous four films. The main issue I had with this film was its weak storyline. I remember thinking after half an hour that nothing major has actually happened. It took way too long to set the scene and the story could have easily been told in 45 minutes. So, to fill up two hours, the scenes became drawn out and boring. The disappointing thing is that the film did have the potential to be something great but, unfortunately, it wasn’t created in such a way that allowed that. That being said, Matt Damon is still a bad-ass and still one of my favourite actors. He puts on one hell of a display here and I was very happy to see him back in this role. ‘Jason Bourne’ was a missed opportunity and I have a feeling many will leave the cinema just as disappointed as I was.

Rating: 2/5

Jason Bourne releases on July 29th 2016.

  1. And lets be honest!

Once they took Matt D out the first time, bringing him back in is just awkward for everyone involved.
I enjoyed these movies, but the last one he appeared in should have been the end of the series.

I think that Matt D himself is actually over this character and it shows, he’s out grown it and after doing something like The Martian where he actually surprised some of us and turned yet another annoying space movie and made it relate-able and enjoyable, to going back to Jason Boring Borne?

Anyway just my thoughts, also could he bring back that ponytail please, kinda suited him.

    Thanks for another awesome post!

    • Completely. He is good at the role but I’m not too sure why he returned. Listen, I enjoy the franchise but the entire film was unnecessary and boring. Let’s see what the public think 😉
