Review: I, Frankenstein

A cheesy attempt at resurrecting the creation of Dr. Frankenstein.

Starring: Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy

Plot: Dr. Victor Frankenstein freezes to death and his creature buries him at the cemetery of his family. However, he is attacked by demons and saved by Gargoyles who take him to a Cathedral where the Order gathers. The Queen of the Gargoyles, Leonore, keeps Dr. Frankenstein’s journal together with the treasures of the Order and gives him the name of Adam. She explains to Adam that there is an ancient war between the Gargoyles and demons who are under the command of the Prince Naberius. She invites Adam to join the Gargoyles in the war against demons, but Adam prefers to isolate himself. Two hundred years later, Adam returns and finds a modern society. Soon he learns that Naberius has the intention of creating an army of soulless corpses to be possessed by demons. Terra, a scientist, is researching a process to create life and Naberius needs Frankenstein’s journal to rebuild his army.

Remarks: The film starts off well, however, it failed to hook me in the first twenty minutes and that, unfortunately, set the tone for the rest of the film. While Aaron Eckhart did a decent job portraying Frankenstein’s creature, the story lacked substance. The film’s climax peaks and dips so quickly as well, which left me with a “is that it?” feeling towards the end of the film which, again, disappointed me. I think the film had a lot of potential, but the producers just didn’t cut it with this film. That being said, the animation of the gargoyles and the demons were fantastic!

Rating: 2/5

I, Frankenstein releases on March 14th 2014.
