Opposite The Other Release Catchy New Pop Track ‘My Body Moves’

Opposite The Other are easily one of the most exciting new indie pop acts in the country. Their debut single ‘Stutter Love’ and ‘Control-Alt-Delete’, their Coke Studio collaboration with Jimmy Nevis, were both massive hits and now, they’re back with their highly-anticipated new single ‘My Body Moves’ – the next single off their highly-anticipated new EP.

The song sees the group continue their creative take on pop music. ‘My Body Moves’ is an incredibly catchy synth-pop track which shows off a side of the group we haven’t seen before. The song is the perfect radio single and it will prove that the group has what it takes to become a successful group in South Africa’s tough pop space. Vocally, Sam Burger stretches his vocals more than we’ve ever heard before – another trend we’ve noticed in pop music at the moment – and delivers a smooth, strong performance.

What I love about the group is how seriously they take their song writing. Their songs are incredibly poetic yet crafted in a way which gives the group to tell their story in the form of a pop song. “On the surface, the song is about the concept of losing all inhibition and dancing through this imperfect life. When looked at a little deeper, this song is actually to a degree questioning how often ‘losing all inhibition’ and ‘dancing’ doesn’t always help us through the truly tough times,” the group’s Daniel Burger tells me. “Life is tough, it can be a struggle and instead of trying to do it on our own we should perhaps be looking elsewhere for help. The song represents the feeling of just dancing but lyrically reflects on perhaps the alternatives options when seeking peace.” The pressure was on to deliver a solid second single and I’m glad that the band took their time with this release. The risk paid off and this song is going to be one of Opposite The Other’s defining career moments. In fact, I’m comfortable in saying that this is one of the best local pop songs released this year.
