Local pop duo, Locnville, have been hard at work preparing for the release of their new album ‘Taste The Weekend’ which drops next Friday. The album’s lead single ‘Grapevine’ signified a more melodic, pop era for the lads and it was clearly a direction many were excited about. The track featured the vocals of American singer Sabi, who featured on Britney Spears’ track ‘(Drop Dead) Beautiful’. Now, they’ve teamed up with producer Sketchy Bongo as they release the second offering off the record – a beautiful track called ‘Cold Shoulder’.
Sketchy Bongo is dominating the local pop space at the moment. He’s produced tracks for Danny K, Kyle Deutsch, Shekhinah, Jimmy Nevis and many more. The song stays true to the more pop-focused sound Locnville have been going for and this era has seen some of their best work to date. Although more commercial, the song still has a lot of character and doesn’t follow the generic recipe many pop songs follow – something I know is important to the duo. Lyrically, their songs are stronger than ever and ‘Cold Shoulder’ has smash hit written all over it. Oh, and can we talk about how flawless the video is? Those desert scenes are everything!
Locnville’s new album, their first with Warner Music South Africa, sees them experimenting with producers Illy, Djenga and more to bring us something completely different than we’ve ever heard from them. It’s experimentation like this that shows us just how talented the boys really are. After two strong singles, I can only imagine what other surprises the boys have for us on the new album. Bring on ‘Taste The Weekend’!
