This is heartbreaking. Earlier tonight, TMZ confirmed that Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington died of an apparent suicide. Law enforcement sources tell the site that the singer hanged himself at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County.
Chester was reportedly home alone at the time at the time of the suicide and was found by one of his employees. The singer struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for many years and often contemplated suicide after struggling to overcome abuse he suffered in the hands of an older male as a child.
Chester and the group became one of the most formidable names in alternative music. Their deep, emotional lyrics helped millions of fans around the world overcome their troubles and saved countless lives through the power of music.
“Chester Bennington was an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul,” Cameron Strang, Chairman and CEO at Warner Bros. Records said in a statement shortly after Chester’s death. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his beautiful family, his band-mates and his many friends. All of us at WBR join with millions of grieving fans around the world in saying: we love you Chester and you will be forever missed.”
The band has a massive fanbase here in South Africa and many around the country are coming to terms with the loss of this great musician. His death is devastating and I truly hope he has finally found the peace he has been craving.
