There is not a single soul in the South African media industry that doesn’t know Jen Su. Not only is she a celebrity entertainment reporter, but she also anchors the financial news on Sky and over the years, has become one of the biggest socialites in Mzansi. That being said, there is a lot more to Jen Su than meets the eye so it was only fitting, after being told many times, that she writes a book on her experience in the local entertainment industry so far. That’s how From Z to A-Lister: How To Build Your Personal Brand was born.
The book, however, is not just an autobiography. Jen helps readers know and understand how to build their own personal brands which is not only useful for individuals, but for businesses as well. The book encompasses various methods and angles into navigating the social scene, networking at parties, using social media for optimal engagement, reputation management, handling interviews, Asian graces, looking your best, getting in the celebrity scene, becoming well-respected in the media – and how to build, cultivate and maintain your personal brand for life.
Jen put a lot of time and effort into the book and opens up about her own personal hardship, failures, addiction, eating disorders, and health scares. There is a lot of credibility that comes with Jen. Not only has she managed to become a Z to A-Lister in South Africa, but she has done so six times around the world, proving she has star potential.
Jen launched the book at Stuttafords in Sandton City and her long-time friend and collegue Gareth Cliff MC’d the evening alongside Kass Naidoo and the evening was filled with delicious food, wine and entertainment from DJ Dino Bravo. “If you’ve ever seen Jen anchor the financial news on Sky, emcee a corporate gala, or sing solo with the Soweto Gospel Choir, you will be impressed by the depth of her intellect and talent,” Gareth said. “And now, in her book, Jen gives a fresh, unique perspective and shares her secrets to success.”
Stars such as Terry Pheto, Tbo Touch, ProVerb, Khanyi Mbau, Chris Jaftha, Jonathan Boyton-Lee, Jay Anstey, Danine Naidoo, Tamerin Jardine, Pabi Moloi, Lee-Ann Liebenberg, Daniel Baron, Nicole Flint, Cara Frew, Johnny Apple and many more were out in full force supporting Jen and her new accomplishment. Jen also surprised guests with an awesome acoustic performance behind the piano and some spot prizes.
I’m so excited to start reading Jen’s book and get a deeper understanding on who this fabulous lady really is. I admire Jen for having that go-getter attitude and doesn’t let anything get in between her and her goals. There aren’t many people like that and in an industry like this, it’s incredibly tough.
From Z to A-Lister: How To Build Your Personal Brand will be available in all bookshops across South Africa in mid November through Tracey McDonald Publishers and Jonathan Ball Distribution.
