Doja Cat Is Bringing Global Citizen’s ‘Move Afrika’ to Pretoria

Doja Cat is heading to South Africa, and this time, it’s about more than a headline slot. The Grammy-winning global superstar has been announced as the headliner for Move Afrika 2026, with a major stop in Pretoria set for March 20 at the SunBet Arena, Time Square. The show marks the third edition of the pan-African touring circuit spearheaded by Global Citizen — and signals another major moment for large-scale international touring on South African soil.

For Doja Cat, the stop carries personal weight. “From my South African roots straight to the world stage, we’re bringing energy, purpose and real change to Move Afrika in Kigali and Pretoria,” she said in a statement. “This isn’t just a tour, it’s a movement that creates jobs and opportunities that last. I’m proud to be part of something that celebrates Africa’s creativity, invests in its future and shows the world that Africa isn’t coming — it’s already here.”

A Growing Global Stage for South Africa

Move Afrika’s expansion into Pretoria positions South Africa as a central player in a long-term plan to build a pan-African touring circuit — one designed not only to host major global artists but to strengthen local creative economies in the process.

The initiative has already created thousands of jobs across host cities, with the vast majority of crew and production roles filled by local talent. In previous editions, more than 90% of crew members were locally sourced, with equipment and vendor contracts awarded to businesses within host countries.

For South Africa, that translates into direct employment across staging, lighting, audio, security, hospitality and event operations — along with expanded training opportunities for young professionals looking to enter the live entertainment industry.

Hugh Evans, co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen, emphasised the broader impact of the expansion. “Move Afrika is redefining global touring by placing Africa’s creative excellence at the center of the international circuit,” he said. “It’s about creating jobs, strengthening local creative industries and driving long-term economic growth powered by culture.”

More Than a Performance

Beyond the spectacle, Move Afrika continues to pair live music with advocacy efforts across the continent. Ahead of the Pretoria show, Global Citizen will campaign alongside local partners to encourage stronger health systems across Africa, focusing on primary care access and broader health resilience.

The 2026 edition also aligns with the Music Economy Development Initiative (MEDI), which aims to release new research focused on music policy reform and investment in Africa’s creative industries.

For South African fans, though, the headline is clear: Doja Cat is bringing one of the year’s biggest live moments to Pretoria. And if her recent festival and arena performances are anything to go by, March 20 at SunBet Arena is shaping up to be more than just another tour date — it’s set to be a defining night in South Africa’s evolving place on the global touring map.
