24-year-old singer/songwriter Alec Benjamin has had a really exciting few weeks. He has released two brand new singles which are making waves internationally as he continues to solidify himself as one of 2018’s most exciting new talents.
‘Let Me Down Slowly’ hit Spotify’s Top 10 Global & US Viral charts and accumulated over two million global streams in its first week making it a massive success. What sets this particular song apart is the brilliant songwriting and the emotional vocal delivery that comes with it. The song is about a pending break-up and is an incredibly sincere track which has been tugging at the heartstrings of listeners around the world. The song is exactly the hit Alec needed to get noticed and the world is intrigued.
A few weeks after dropping ‘Let Me Down Slowly’, Alec premiered another new song titled ‘The Boy In The Bubble’. The track is something completely different to ‘Let Me Down Slowly’ and proves that Alec still has a few surprises up his sleeve. The single sees the star rap about a fight with a bully at school who is being abused by his father at home. The song is quite intense and a little strange (Alec sings ‘punch my face, do it because I like the pain’), but again shows the 24-year-old’s mastery. Again, his songwriting is exceptional and the star proves that he can give a soulful performance in both in falsetto and while rapping.
Alec Benjamin simply refers to himself as a “narrator” instead of a songwriter and after hearing his music, it’s easy to see why. Inspired by Eminem, Paul Simon, and Citizen Cope, the star places an incredible amount of importance on telling stories through music instead of creating generic pop music. It’s this that has set him apart and has made him one of the freshest faces in pop music right now.
This is an exciting beginning for Alec (who has been working hard for years to get to this point) and his new material proves that he’s got a whole lot more to offer.
