Prince Kaybee is smashing it right now. The star is dominating the airwaves with his latest hit single ‘Fetch Your Life’ which features Msaki and his previous singles ‘Banomoya’ and ‘Club Controller’ continue to light up dance floors around the country. Now, the star’s latest album ‘Re Mmino’, which was released just two months ago, has hit a major milestone. The album has sold in excess of 38 000 copies and 56 million streams around the country reaching platinum status.
“I am so excited to have Prince Kaybee receive not ONE, but TWO awards today for his two month old album ‘Re Mmino’. After going Gold on day of release in March, today we give him. TWO awards: His GOLD plaque and another for reaching PLATINUM in this short space of time. With over 56 million streams and counting, we are proud to be part of this amazing journey and taking his sound to the world,” Sipho Dlamini, Managing Director Universal Music Africa says.
The star says he’s grown a lit since his previous album ‘I Am Music’ and he’s thrilled that his new album has been so well received. “I’ve grown as an artist because I’ve spent so much time travelling and listening to different songs all over the world,” Prince Kaybee says. “That has played a big role in my music making skills and the goal of releasing this recent album is for us to expand and go mainstream – even international. That’s the idea.”
Although the album has reached this incredible milestone, Prince Kaybee doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. “The next few months see me travelling the world, touring, selling the album and working on new music,” he says. “I don’t want to detach from the foundation. The vision has always been about music so that’s wat I’m doing. We’ve got a couple of announcements coming through, endorsements and some things that add value to the brand, we’re looking into that as well.”
